I tried having a conversation with a friend about health and the importance of reading labels. He was drinking a bottle of juice beverage, specifically, juice mixed with water and High Fructose Corn Syrup. So I thought it would be a good way to chat about nutrition labels. The conversation went something like this:
Me: You know that bottle you’re drinking. It’s not real juice. It’s loaded with corn syrup.
Friend: Well, I just bought a bottle of juice. I don’t look at it as corn syrup.
Me: It’s not that you look at it as corn syrup. It IS corn syrup! It says so right on the label.
Friend: But I am not looking on the label to see that it has corn syrup.
Me: Are you’re saying that you don’t look at labels at all when you’re buying food?
Friend: Of course I look at labels. I look at the most important label – the price tag!
