Find 100 Ways

This is my 100th blog post. It feels like I’ve been telling you my stories for a long time but I’ve only been on this site for 4 months. I’ve tried other blogs before, some I set up as private records for my eyes only, others I started by writing without really sharing myself. This time, I decided to give 100 percent, make time to share my thoughts, be honest with my shortcomings and my successes and share even the not-so-flattering photos. It’s been a learning experience and I’ve loved it, I’ve loved meeting the people who read what I write and comment and advise and share their own experiences with me.

So THANK YOU for reading and for encouraging and for taking this journey with me.

To celebrate my 100th blog post, I’d like to do something a little different. It’s a little mix bag. I was going to share 100 things that inspire me/motivate me/make me excited/make me happy. But because I don’t know if you want to scroll through such a long list, the compromise is a shorter version where I share  100 percent. So this is me, the 100 percent, abbreviated version.

  1. Love – I believe in the Bible definition of love – that God is love – so when we show love to others, when we show genuine love to people, we are actually representing God, which is why I am genuinely moved when people show me love by their encouragement and support… and gifts. I really like gifts.
  2. Gifts 🙂
  3. Running – I think about running and read about running and sometimes, I actually GO running too 🙂
  4. Family. Need I say more? I have a big family and I try, often unsuccessfully, to keep in contact but I think about them and pray for them all the time
  5. The Bible
  6. My mom.
  7. My dad
  8. My brother, Mark
  9. My niece, Janelle, who I haven’t seen in years but I think about her as though she is my kid.
  10. My best friend, Paul. I could call him other things but he really IS my best friend.
  11. Friends of all sorts – church friends, school friends, work friends, social friends, neighbors, old roommates. I collect friends everywhere I go and I love them all even if we never hang out 🙂
  12. Food. Eating it, studying it, shopping for it, planning meals around it, cooking it, going to restaurants and dining on it, watching TV shows and getting new ideas to prepare it and my new fav, photographing it.
  13. Twitter. I follow some random people who fire off some random tweets all day long but I love it. Hashtags are fun. #fun 🙂
  14. Instagram. Follow me at karen_runwright. I share things there that I sometimes forget to put anywhere else.
  15. My “lucky” number. I’ve been obsessed with the #13 for years now.
  16. TV. Educational, fun, ridiculous, informative. I like it all.
  17. Clothes. I love getting dressed up.
  18. Natural hair. I used to hate having my relaxed hair grow out. About 4 years ago my friend, Karima showed me natural hair wasn’t scary and it was one of the best things I ever did. I love my fro even if I don’t often let it loose.
  19. Church. It should be higher on the list. But this is in no particular order. I am super involved in my church – I’m Seventh-day Adventist – and I wouldn’t trade any of my responsibilities because I love to serve and share and worship.
  20. Teaching. I love learning from others and then telling everyone I know about what I’ve learned. They say that’s what makes a good teacher. I hope so.
  21. Books – reading them, writing them, talking about them, reviewing them, visiting them in Barnes and Noble, checking them out at my local NYPL. I really like books.
  22. The color purple. Not the movie. The actual color. The Bible calls purple the color of royalty and I tend to agree. When I was in my late teens, I had a purple phase where I wore something purple everyday.
  23. The color pink. When I was in my mid twenties, I had a pink phase where I wore something pink everyday.
  24. Black. When I was in my early thirties, I had a black phase where I wore something black everyday. Now I just settle for the fact that I am black.
  25. Sisters. I had a sister once. She died before I got a chance to have a relationship with her. The person that my mom is closest to (aside from my dad and my brother and me) is her sister. Sometimes I wish I had that too.
  26. Facebook
  27. Magazines
  28. Education. I think every person should get a college education, just so they can find out what they really like. Even if they don’t graduate, even if they work in a totally different field when they’re done.
  29. Blogs. Reading them and updating mine – Runwright.net and these others Update: I deleted a few blogs from the list because those lovely ladies are no longer blogging

  32. Motivational speakers, like my pastor
  33. Poetry
  34. Dr Oz

  36. Pathfinders
  37. Camping
  38. Vegetables
  39. Water!
  40. Hiking
  41. Nuts
  42. Trader Joe’s
  43. Chocolate
  44. Free Stuff
  45. Tech Wear
  46. Twins
  47. Boots
  48. Marianne Williamson’s Return to Love
  49. Music…
  50. James Ingram’s song, Find 100 Hundred Ways was a part of the first tape I ever owned and the song still resonates with me. If you love people, you should find 100 (or so) ways to tell them.

  1. Congratulations on 100 posts!
It’s really nice to get to know a bit more about you, those little random things that we don’t get to share while blogging.
Thank you very much for the mention.

Awesome! Great post. I too am a lover of books; however, my husband believes that soon, kindles and nooks will replace them 😦 What is your take on that?

Hey Christina, thanks for the compliment. Printed materials are certainly not as popular as they used to be but they will never be replaced. Kids use iPads but they learn to read printed books so I think it ensures they will continue.

Thanks so much for going back and reading some of my old posts. Patrice, you rock. I couldn’t remember what #38 was and when I looked back at the list, I had to make some updates. I took it off the list because I finally stopped playing. I realized I wasn’t getting anywhere.
I also had to remove some of the blogs I used to follow. 5 out of my 9 favorite bloggers back then are no longer blogging. Isn’t that weird!

Also YouTube… I’m in love with YouTube. I learn sooooooo much from people who know more about something than I do.

You Tube can be a major time suck for me. I start and I just move from video to video and can’t pull myself away. But it’s fun! So why not!
