Life Is Like A Garden and other things I think about when I run

on

I don’t run with music so when I run, I notice things around me, what they look like, what they smell like, what they remind me of. The picture below is of a garden I spotted on one of my MODRUNs – when I saw the flowers, enclosed and protected by the rocks, that quote is what came to my mind.
Life is like a GARDEN – you have to cross the rocks to get to the flowers.
And then I thought, “This sounds like something that Forrest Gump would say”, and then I remembered that he was a runner too, a runner who overcame all his challenges and just ran.
But before Forrest did all those amazing (even if fictional) things, he worked hard. MEB won the Boston marathon 2 weeks ago but before all that glory, he practiced and trained for years and then he ran 26.2 miles. Oprah is a billionaire and one of the most influential people on earth, but she put in years and years of work before she became a success and we have to be willing to work hard if we want to be successful too – work before vacation, work getting paid, work before rest.
Flowers are beautiful but we all have to cross some rocks before we get to smell the roses.
Today I’m chugging away a couple miles of running so I can get to my fitness goals. Sometimes the rocks are hard to climb, but there are some flowers waiting at the end of that journey.
I love running and all the potential that it unleashes – for physical, mental and emotional growth. Even when the going gets a little rocky (pun intended), keep on going!
Hope you have an awesome day where you get a chance to RUNWRIGHT!
Do you have an inspiring quote that you’d like to share?

“All the flowers that ever bloomed had to go through a lot of dirt to get there”
Keep on climbing over the rocks to get to those lovely blooms of your dreams.
