Now That Mark Zuckerberg Made Reading Cool Again

Now that Mark Zuckerberg made reading his new years resolution, reading is cool again.

The first book on his reading list has all but disappeared from the shelves because there are so many people wanting to join Zuckerberg’s personal challenge ( I wrote about it here yesterday)

But if we learn anything from the Facebook mogul, it’s that when Zuckerberg makes a resolution, he keeps it. Last year, his resolution was to learn Mandarin and he was speaking conversational Mandarin by October

So when he says he will read a book every other week in 2015, I expect him to have 26 books under his belt on December 31st, 2015. And he’s started a virtual book-club to share his thoughts.

I don’t know what his next books are, and frankly, it doesn’t matter that much what he chooses. Mark’s life is not my life. His goals are not necessarily my goals. But here’s a reading challenge I adopted from POPSUGAR.

More categories = more choices = more fun
More categories = more choices = more fun

It’s a long challenge, 50 books and it may be daunting for people who don’t have much time to read. But I like that it’s varied, with interesting categories, and if you start it and you only read a few books for the year, just keep going for 2016 too.

I set my Goodreads reading goal at 50 books this year so it’s perfect for me but here’s the thing with my goals. They are specific, with timelines that I want to achieve them by, but if it takes a little longer than I hoped, I won’t be mad. The important thing is that we get there. And if in December, I’ve only read 30 of those books, I will celebrate having read 30 books and move on. That would have been 4 more than Mark Zuckerberg, but who’s keeping track? 🙂

  • Are you doing a reading challenge?
  • Which do you think is the most interesting category?

If you’re on Goodreads, please add me as a friend. If you’re not on Goodreads, consider signing up. It’s free and it’s a good way to keep track of books and get great recommendations.

I’ll be updating this post in future Weekly Reads Wednesday posts, and I’ll add link-ups so readers can share their book experiences too.

I keep hearing about Goodreads, I think I need to sign up! That book challenge sounds cool, I’m planning to read at least 50 books this year anyway, so it would be perfect!

Awesome! Yes, definitely try goodreads. I’ve only been on it for a couple months but i like the recommendations I get from other people. And it’s nice to keep track of all I’m reading. Let me know when you sign up

  2. I’m doing the popsugar challenge but I’m not necessarily aiming to do all of the books on the list.

Cool. I wondered about it too. Since I am planning to read 50 books and there are 50 categories, it might be challenging to get one book for each category and not repeat categories. But I’m going for it and see how it works out since I might end up reading more than 50.
