We are fresh off the season of Lent, where people pledged to give up something … but definitely not meat because they didn’t want to eat tofu everyday. Well, if you are thinking of going meatless again, today is a good day to start. The Internet is filled with ideas for meatless Monday’s. And Yes! there are meat alternatives that have nothing to do with tofu.
Personally, I’m not a tofu-everyday fan but more than that, I love the idea of diversity on my foods. And while I am not about to carry around a “Meat is Murder” or “Meat is Madness” poster anytime soon, there have been several studies that prove there can be detrimental effects to eating a lot of meat. Health risks aside, one of the most disturbing side effects is premature aging. Gulp!
So here are a few high protein foods that you can use to supplement your meal plan if you want to cut down on the meat and don’t want to just eat tofu all day long.
- Almonds
- Beans (any kind)
- Chickpeas
- Kale
- Lentils
- Pumpkin seeds
- Quinoa
- Seaweed
- Sunflower seeds
- Tempeh – go for the organic, 3-grain kind

Lentils are a personal favorite of mine too. I make a mean curried lentils, maybe like what Jacob gave his brother in exchange for his birthright 😊
