How long after a workout should you eat?
I try to get a mix of carbs and protein within a half hour of a run or gym workout. If I’m just playing around in the park, it might be longer but if I don’t refuel within a reasonable time, I feel lethargic and lightheaded, especially when it’s hot out.
But how soon is a reasonable time? These links give some advice:
- Jillian Michaels recommends eating within the golden hour – 45 to 60 mins after training
- Livestrong.com recommends you eat within 15 minutes
- Sixwise.com says your workout isn’t of monkeys until you’ve eaten
