On December 1st, I decided to start a decluttering challenge. I didn’t know how it was going to go with all the other things I’m doing this month but
- It was time to get some of my stuff out of the house and I needed room for all the extra stuff that comes along with Christmas shopping and gift-making etc. (I’m assembling gifts for a project at church and storing some of those things for delivery feels like it was taking over my room so I definitely needed to free up some extra space.)
- My Mom always cleans the entire house in preparation for the New Year. What better way to clean than to get rid of lots of stuff – less things to clean, which is a win-win.
The guidelines for the challenge (hosted by So Damn Domestic) are simple, start off on Day 1 by getting rid of 30 things, on day 2, throw out 29 things, day 3 is 28 items in the trash/recycling, etc.
Here’s how I’m doing so far.
Day 4: I have lots of spare hangers now that I gave away some clothes
Day 7,8 and 9 – lets just say this was more than the requisite number but I don’t have any use for these picnic things in my kitchen. I really don’t like disposable utensils.
On Day 10 I threw out some hair rollers which I don’t use now that I have natural hair and I’m staying away from heat styling
Day 11: my purse can always stand to be decluttered. I had a bunch of old receipts hanging out in my wallet dating back to the summer. Why!?!
So that was the first 15 days. How you’ll come back to see what I’m letting go of for the rest of the year.
