January to July 2016

Suffice it to say I am lagging behind on almost all the goals I made for myself this year. My health and fitness goals have been down in the dumps as I’ve been focused on other things – sitting around to write and teach means I’ve been neglecting exercise; making time to read and make videos about reading means I haven’t been going to some of the places I planned to visit.

But you know what? If I had it to do over again, I probably would have made the same choices.

I haven’t done all I wanted in the past few months but the things I’ve done, I’ve enjoyed. Some of the investments I’ve made are finally maturing and I just want to keep improving.

I posted my 2016 goals here and here’s where I am in each category:

Running/ Health and Fitness

Nothing to write home about so far. I even attempted a running streak 2 weeks ago and fell flat a couple days in. I just started again this week and hope to do much better and stay consistent this time. I’ll tell you more as more happens.

My finances still suck but I am working on some plans to improve and staying patient.

Personal Development

I’ve read 60 books so far this year, including a whole lot of books about finance and investment and stewardship. Someday, all the lessons are going to come together.

I worked with my Pathfinders and 2 of them sat and passed their promotion exams. That made me feel like a proud mama bear.

I’ve been promoting It’s Complicated like crazy to everyone who’ll listen. Buy It's Complicated Now

I’m really excited about sharing my book so I’ve been hitting the streets in NYC and getting my book out to book bloggers, etc. The self-publishing world is really hard work but it’s so worth it every time I meet a new reader who enjoys my book. I was made for book signings. I thrive around my fans 🙂

I’m in the middle of writing my next book so I released the title and cover a couple weeks ago on here a few days ago. The feedback so far has been good motivation to continue

Love and Its Opposite by Karen Wright. Release date September 1, 2016
I’ve been writing – not every day but often. I just need to stay consistent

I haven’t been as astute with my Bible Reading Plan as I need to be so I have to do better but I did start helping some kids with a Bible study plan and that just thrills me.

Blog and Social Media

In the last couple months, I neglected my blog like crazy. Some days, I just didn’t know what to post. I didn’t have a blog schedule and my lack of running highlights embarrassed me so I stayed away from the blog. Recently one of my friends inspired me. He told me he’ll read anything I write – just keep writing. That was sweet! Thanks, friend. You know who you are.

In July, I started a YouTube channel. If you knew me a few years ago, you would think I’d never do that. Publishing a blog was a big step into the world but videos, nah! Not Karen. Turns out I love it and after just 1 month, I already have 100 subscribers so I’m excited about where this new medium will take me.YouTube Channel karen_runwright

I haven’t gone anywhere or done anything of note. in July, I went camping and loved it but that was in Connecticut so it feels like it didn’t even count. I do have a couple of hiking trips coming up though so I’m looking forward to getting back out there and doing some new stuff to write about.

The rest of the year, I plan to do better and be better. Running everyday is already making me more motivated. Try it if you can.

How are your 2016 plans going?

Since many of my “plans/goals” coming to fruition depend on fate/the universe cooperating, I’ve learned not to make them terribly specific. There is only so much within my control. Funny, because I’m a “list” person, and I usually love the satisfaction of crossing things off.
But I also stay open to new possibilities. There’s a lot you don’t (and won’t) see coming if you’re too focused on something that didn’t pan out as you’d have liked it to.
I know a lot of ppl whose lives have always gone “according to plan”… and in a way, I feel kind of bad for them, because if the unexpected happens they don’t know what to do. They’ve never been tested. Never been thrown a curve ball.
Anywhee, there’s a full 5 months left in the year, and I believe a lot can still happen. Good luck with everything!

Thanks so much Marsha. I love your comment and agree with it wholeheartedly. Sometimes it’s best that after you make the list, you let a nice cool breeze blow it through the window and then run with that wind to the best of the things you didn’t see coming and thus couldn’t anticipate.
Have a great day, love. Feel that wind on your face.

What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts as well.
