I’m not ready for September to be over. I would do my month recap today but I am hanging on to the last few hours of the best month of the year so indulge me.
Yesterday, I took a tour of my favorite city with one of my favorite people and it was awesome.
We took the train to the newly opened Hudson Yards station. We walked along the High Line from 34th street to 14th Street
The Highline is a public park that goes along an old abandoned train line. It’s above ground and there are elevators and stairs you can use at certain points to exit and go down to the street level. But with all the art and all the sightseeing, why not just go all the way, right?
At first, I though this man in his underwear was just another crazy New Yorker but he wasn’t real. Very lifelike but still, just a statue. I liked this art installation which was a real Smart car, covered with true treads, and filled with soil so there’s an entire garden growing out of the sunroof.
More weird art includes these sleeping bags full of debris and cement. I’ll let you figure out what you think that all means.
I’ve seen this building at night but it was my first time seeing it up close during the day time. The walls are completely glass – you can see inside – but at night, it glows and the colors change. Such an interesting design.
At 14th street, we got on the train and went to the World Trade Center Memorial. Even though I’ve walked by the site many times since 9/11, it was my first time going to the memorial. I know for a long time, no one could agree what should happen there but they got it right. The waterfall is a reminder of all the lives that ended that day. The vastness of the space brings to mind the gravity of the event. Yes, they lost commercial space… but they made the right decision.
I saw this sign that said they place flowers by the names of the deceased on their birthdays.
There were several roses pinned to names close to where I was and I thought, that person didn’t know they wouldn’t live to see their birthday.
So I’m happy I was able to see mine. Thank God for another September. All day today, I’m claiming these last few hours and smiling thru them all.
Happy Friday to you and I hope you enjoy the rest of September 2016!

I didn’t realize there was so much art on the Highline! I’ll have to make a visit there.

I can’t believe September is coming to an end either! I really didn’t think that was a statue you were posing with, wow! I don’t get to spend nearly enough time in NYC…I am sure the 9/11 Memorial is breathtaking.

I haven’t visited New York for a few years – when I was there the 9/11 memorial was under construction. I remember feeling horrified by the number of people selling 9/11 ‘memorabilia’. What?! I hope that now the memorial is open, it’s truly a place for quiet reflection and genuine remembrance.

I like the CAR Art. Amazing. Its so nice to walk through a lane and describe it, so artfully . The other art forms, especially the man one, was hilarious !!
