Renegade’s Pride

Ely Cahill is adamant he’s been abducted by aliens some decades ago, and now they are tracking his every move. His daughter, Lillie, says she saw a bear behind her business but it might just be her ex, Trask, returning to clear his name. Her brother, the sheriff, has arrested their father, again. And that’s just the beginning of the family drama.

At first glance, Renegade’s Pride looks like the typical romance novel but the plot packs alien sightings, government secrets, domestic violence, murder, fraud and a heightened sense of intrigue into a single 314 page paperback. Best of all, it didn’t read like a cliched Harlequin story at all. In fact, while I was reading, I felt like the book was helping me to hone my detective skills, although I was a little disappointed when one of the major mysteries wasn’t solved in this installment.

What I Liked

  • The plot was interesting with scenes moving at a good pace
  • The characters were complex but understandable
  • I wanted to read more about these characters when the book was finished

What I Didn’t Like

  • Renegade’s Pride is part of a series so not all sub plots were explained or resolved
  • The cover didn’t do anything for me. If anything, I might have been inclined to not pick up this book because of the cliches I thought the storyline would contain.

Would I Recommend?

Yes. I would like to read the rest of this series to see what the other members of the Cahill family get up to in the subsequent novels.

  1. This sounds insane (in a good way. Lol). Based on the cover I would have expected something cheesy and given it a wide berth, but after your review I’m intrigued!

Sounds interesting! Hope you feature it on “A Closer Book”

I will. Actually, I did. I already filmed that episode.
