June 1st seems like time to start all over again but some things have to carry over from May, right? In May, I set a goal to get back into outdoor running so I started a challenge where I would run every weekday. Today is day 19 of the daily workout challenge that I started with my virtual running-buddy. The goal today was to run / run-walk 1 mile and this morning, I was too late to run in the morning so I put off my run until the afternoon and I just did it – 1.3 mile run in 80 degree weather is no joke but I got it done. Tomorrow, hopefully, I will get my elusive 2 mile run in.
Tomorrow, I will do a full recap of my May accomplishments to figure out how many miles I ran so I can set new fitness goals, but right now, I am just happy that the challenge is still underway. Getting my first run for June reminds me of the importance of the second US President.
You know when the United States of America declared independence from Britain, it was a huge deal – it was a big step for the nation to choose it’s own leader and a great stride towards democracy. But the big marker wasn’t the first president, it was the second. The trues sign of democracy wasn’t that a leader had been chosen, it was when that leader passed on the torch to someone else.
In a similar way, it wasn’t that I started the challenge and ran every week day for May – the true test of my commitment to improving my fitness is that it doesn’t stop there. So today’s run is more meaningful to me than just another 1.3 miles added to my running log. It is a sign that I will continue.
Leave a comment below if you’d like to join the challenge so I can add you to the daily tracker and tell me how your workouts are going.
