Whether The Weather Permits

The sun hasn’t made an appearance in New York City in about 3 weeks. Okay, that might not be completely true but that’s what it feels like. It’s been rainy or overcast almost everyday for a long time so while we’re at the time of year where we want to start planning outdoor activities, it has to be with the understanding that it’s weather-permitting plans. That said, across the world, thousands of runners don rain coats or rain hats when it’s pouring outside and continue their daily running as though it’s 75 degrees and sunny outside. No waiting for the weather to give permission. When you want to run, or indeed when you want to do anything, you can’t let the weather stop you. Which is why the running challenge continues today in spite of the rain.

Today is day 22 of the daily workout challenge that I started with my virtual running-buddy. We started with just focusing on getting outside everyday for some exercise, but now that we are in month 2, the daily targets are a little more strenuous. This week, I intend to run average 2 miles everyday with at least one long run of 3 miles.

The goal today is to run / run-walk for 2 miles.

Runwright Update

This morning, I ran another 2.1 miles in the rain. The first mile was a slow non-stop jog and I did it in 10 minutes. Then I ran another half mile, stopped for a breather and finished strong. All around, I ran for about 20 minutes which is right where I am hoping my daily workouts to be, at least the cardio part of it.
