Here is a part of my heart. By that, I mean, this is a poem I wrote today that I will share with you here even though right now, it’s just a scribble, a first draft that I might never have gone back to edit, and instead might be more inclined to keep in my journal and never let anyone see. That would be what happened except that I met a new friend today, a lady who sat beside me in Starbucks and shared her poem with me and so inspired me to also put these words into the world, to offer them to the ether, and let the wind carry my thoughts wherever it will.
My poem is called Timeless, or at least that’s the title written in my journal, but really, poetry gets its title from you, its reader, the one who absorbs the words and let them move you – is it Timeless or Time, or Untethered, or Change? It could be anything you let it.
Timeless,
Thoughts like rain
Same rain felt by Noah’s children
Because after the first rain,
When it fell again,
This time they were outside,
They tasted the first drops with their tongue
Let the surplus slide
Down their face and smiled.
Timeless
Dreams like sun
Same sun Hezekiah prayed and it was turned back
Because after that long day
When morning broke again
He looked up and saw a different sky
Felt a new burn on overexposed skin
Let his sweat bead and dry
Turn salt on his face, and sighed
Content that if he died right now
He would have made his place in that sweet by and by.
Timeless like love
Same love felt by God when He formed and fashioned man
Because man was the manifestation of that love
And woman, she came when man felt the yearning of love
Their children came as the earning of love
Sin, in its time, became the burning of love
The unquenched desire
That inhabits your skin with dancing fire
Yet that same love redeems you, lifts you higher
To the place where rain doesn’t fall
Past where the sun becomes a blazing ball
Whose energy disappears into the deep
Where only love exists to keep you.
Timeless
Thoughts like rain
Dreams like sun
Love like love
That once begun
Never ends again.

I am literally blown away! The tight rhythm, spot on repetition, and biblical allusions—all of these imbue this poem with such gravitas! Bravo!
