Cowboy’s Legacy: Review

The Book

The Cahill Ranch series follows the romantic lives of the siblings in one Montana family and in this installment, titled Cowboy’s Legacy, the focus is on Flint, the older brother and town sheriff. Flint is about to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Maggie, much to the chagrin of his ex-wife who has been stalking them since their relationship started. On the day she agrees to move in with him, Maggie disappears and Flint is the prime suspect and of course, he’s off the case. Flint, however, suspects his ex, Celeste, might have done something to harm Maggie, but will he have to go rogue to solve the case, and with what consequences?

My Review

Not the average Harlequin romance, Cowboy’s Legacy also includes family drama and generational curses and stalking and kidnapping along with what might or might not turn out to be a government conspiracy or alien abductions.
I enjoy the way seeds from previous books take root and provide many of the dramatic turns for this novel and yet this is a standalone because enough information is given here to be able to enjoy Cowboy’s Legacy on its own. I admire the author’s way of connecting these little threads and writing a story that is fast paced, intriguing and very enjoyable.

In a series where so many little details come back and prove to be part of a bigger picture, it is difficult to say that any of Daniels’ descriptions are wasted, not even the things I might have made an issue with. I didn’t particularly like the mention of one family member’s psychic abilities but it was mentioned a couple times and then left alone which makes me think it might recur in a later novel and be explored more fully there. I didn’t like either of the proposal scenes in the book but I also think it might have been the author’s way of showing the ruggedness of the men, characteristics we might expect of cowboys.

There isn’t much to take issue with in this book. Instead, I give it high praises and recommendations as a quick, easy read with lots of drama at every turn and characters that are easy to love or easy to hate.
