Last Summer by Kerry Lonsdale | Book Review

Imagine marrying the man of your dreams, except that he doesn’t share your desire to have children. Imagine conceiving a baby anyway only to have a miscarriage 5 months in to the pregnancy, after a car accident that might have resulted from speeding away from a domestic dispute. Imagine that.

That’s what Ella Skye is trying to imagine, except that the scenario isn’t a figment of someone’s imagination, it’s the life they say she had although she can’t remember a significant part of it. Five days after the accident, it appears that she lost her memory of the pregnancy, the accident and how it all happened. She’s left with a hole in her stomach from the emergency C-section she suffered, and an almost-perfect husband,  business mogul Damien, who’s determined to stand by her as she tries to recover her memories. Meanwhile, Damien refuses to talk, to discuss the situation that led up to their unplanned but according to him, a welcome pregnancy. As Ella is trying to piece together what caused his change of heart. another man, Nathan, emerges from her amnesiac fog that has her questioning whether the two lost memories are connected.

Bestselling author Kerry Lonsdale’s latest novel Last Summer is part suspense, part romance, part family intrigue and all page-turning interest. From the prologue where journalist Ella interviews a celebrity who shares marital advice to the stunning resolution of Ella’s memory loss, characters are introduced by their wit, even when their words are less than charming, but they become multidimensional entities on the page. Other inclusions that really appealed to me were hiking and wilderness adventures, journalistic techniques and even the sensitive discussions of how each character dealt with losses.

With dual-timeline narration and the perfect blend of the multiple genres that the story covers, Last Summer was an enjoyable read and one I recommend to fans Liane Moriarty and Sally Hepworth.

I received a complimentary copy of Last Summer from Lake Union Publishing and TLC Books Tours in order to complete this review. Notwithstanding, my views are honest and unbiased and I genuinely enjoyed this book, otherwise, I would not recommend it to you.

I have this on order from the library and there are a TON of holds ahead of me. Ugh. This sounds so good and I can’t wait to get into it, I’m a fan of books with sudden memory loss in it. Thank you for being on this tour! Sara @ TLC Book Tours
