What Do You Do When It Seems God Hasn’t Come Through for You? (Publisher’s Synopsis)
When the miracle-working God whom Pastor Stacy Henagan loved and served did not answer the prayers on behalf of her terminally ill one-year-old daughter as expected, she was left crushed with grief, struggling to understand and asking,
- How could a loving God allow this to happen?
- What do you do when it seems God has let you down?
- Is God trustworthy?
Rather than remaining in overwhelming pain and doubt, Stacy emerged with a much greater belief that God is good and trustworthy, even when we don’t think His plans make sense.
It’s tempting to expect that someone who’s dedicated themselves to ministry has all the answers about God but it’s also easy to see, when reading Stacy Henagan’s story of losing her baby daughter, how a parent might harbor doubt about God’s purpose and plans. This book delivers a truly heartbreaking, emotional arc but also tempers it with rational thoughts to help anyone needing to process grief and patience. And despite the crushing loss described within the first few pages, the focus is not just on hardship; instead, the author goes through a range of experiences within the pages, sharing her joys and frustrations through the highs and lows of her life. I enjoyed the way Henagan related lesser-explored Biblical references and showed the lessons we can get from disappointments as well as our dream-come-true moments. I found a lot of quotes to underline and share, like this one correlating the constancy of God despite the response to our prayers:
Who is your Lord? It’s the subject of the same struggle that took place in two different gardens, Eden and Gethsemane.
At the outset, I thought this would be a book I could recommend to other believers, maybe specifically moms, but there are important lessons in this book that are relevant to anyone desirous of living a more centered, fulfilling life, and isn’t that everyone?
