What To Eat When describes a focus on the timeliness and quality of meals that are geared toward providing optimum nutrition to restore and maintain health. Authors Michael F. Roizen, M.D., Michael Chupain, M.D., M.P.H., and Jim Perko, Sr, CEC, AAC, discuss the “why”s of our food choices and then steers the reader into adopting the “When Way” with an eye to choosing better foods and eating them at more optimal times. The recently released The What To Eat When Cookbook is a practical guide for selecting and preparing ingredients as well as outlining how to incorporate those meals into the most beneficial lifestyle.
Although this is a cookbook with over 135 recipes, the first few pages focus on the reader acquiring skills to help cultivate a better relationship with food. So there is a How To section on stocking a pantry, selecting kitchen tools and preparing certain foods, as well as the pros and cons of various cooking methods and which are better for what meals.
As a cookbook, this is a great resource as it contains a multitude of illustrated recipes that aren’t simply visually appealing but are also easy to replicate. But The What To Eat When Cookbook is also a treasure trove of tips for living in the “When Way” and peppers the introductory narrative with tips from the authors, like Dr. C sharing that he cooks a bellisimomeal in the evenings but saves it to eat the next morning. This is a typical When Way tip, since the book suggests focusing the bulk of your meals during the day for peak metabolism.
The beautiful hardcover and attractive graphic on The What To Eat When Cookbook are instantly appealing and its contents deliver exactly on the promise – informative, engaging content that is almost bound to stimulate an appetite for making some changes to your eating plan and incorporating at least a few of these tips to lead a healthier life.
I received a complimentary copy of The What To Eat When Cookbook from National Geographic and TLC Book Tours in order to complete this review. I was not otherwise compensated and the above reflects my honest and unbiased opinion.

Publisher Synopsis for The What to Eat When Cookbook
This inspiring cookbook/strategic eating plan–sequel to the wildly popular What to Eat When–offers 125 delectable recipes geared to longevity, weight loss, and success.
In their acclaimed lifestyle guide What to Eat When, Dr. Michael Roizen and Dr. Michael Crupain revealed when to eat foods for healthier living, disease prevention, better performance, and a longer life. The key, they assert, is eating breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. Now, in this mouthwatering sequel, they deliver 125 recipes to put these lessons into practice. From a fiber-rich pasta dish loaded with healthy and fresh tomatoes and a creamy lemon dip and homemade crackers to satisfy your snack cravings to a salmon burger you’ll love to eat for breakfast (yes, breakfast!) and a healthier, decadent chocolate mousse–a treat that also offers hormone-boosting ingredients before you hit the gym. Each dish is paired with practical information about the nutrients and benefits of the ingredients, plus expert cooking tips, what portion size to eat when, and helpful subsitutions. Covering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert–and the best times to eat all four–this highly anticipated sequel to Roizen and Crupain’s best-selling eating guide offers a plethora of meals that will get you through the day, and extend your life by years!
