I Am Beauty by Riku Campo | Book Review

I Am Beauty is more than just a go-to resource for skincare and beauty advice for mature women. The language is certainly geared towards those over 40, highlighting tips to preserve youthful vitality, correct negative practices and teach how to use makeup to maximize attributes. As someone with a minimalist to non-existent routine, the tips do not appear at all intimidating because I Am Beauty is organized in sections with a focus model that makes it easy to find someone who may be similar to you, regardless of how you identify with respect to age or ethnicity.

In this visually stunning presentation, Campo showcases sixteen models of varying ages and ethnicities so it is easy to find someone with a similar appearance and use their routine as a starting place. More than the advice about skin care regimens, however, I most enjoyed the interviews as these diverse women shared their own perspective on the evolving ideas of beauty, and lessons learned as they have grown into themselves. And while the women are all different, a theme that seems to resonate in their interviews is how much outer beauty reflects what is inside and how the attention they pay to their general health is influences their appearance.

I Am Beauty certainly feels like a celebration of maturity as women learn to accept and love themselves and as such it feels less like a book and more like the chronicles of female wisdom. The gorgeous red highlights on the book cover seems an extension of that celebration of timeless beauty and self love reflected on how we wear our skin.
